
According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes directly from the saying "Anke dje, anke be" which literally translates to "everyone gather together" and defines the drum's purpose” - Wikipedia
This Mali saying is central to the percussion workshops. As well as being taught how to play the instruments, Children are encouraged to listen to each other and work together. This way the whole class works together to create an amazing team performance.

A typical percussion workshop day comprises of four or five sessions, each lasting between 45 minutes to an hour. During each session, up to fifteen students are given an introduction to the djembe and various other percussion instruments.
