The Peavey Bandit is a classic first giggers amplifier. Peavey's solid and reliable build quality mean that the Bandit will shrug off being chucked in the back of a van, being lugged around venues and still serve up some fantastic tones. The Peavey Bandit is solid state, that is, there are no valves. However Peavey use a method called "Trans Tube Technology" to make the main amplification section analogue. So the input and output sections of the power amplifier have similar characteristics to an all valve amplifier.Without getting too technical valve amplifiers give a full range of harmonics, both odd and even and the output and input stages are affected by each other which is what serves up the natural, organic and warm sound everyone loves about valve amplifiers. Peavey's Trans Tube Technology acts in the same way and isn't as clean and perfect sounding as a completely digital amplifier.Play strings lightly and get a subdued tight sound but dig in on the strings and that tone will open up and start to approach breaking up point, like a real valve amplifier. Letting a note sustain to feedback sounds much more natural on the Peavey Bandit than it's digital counterparts, seamlessly transitioning into a harmonic laden feedback sound as the played note dies away.Another big thing is how loud the Peavey Bandit will be perceived for it's fairly modest 80 watts. The Trans Tube Technology makes the tone jump out and sit in a mix of other instruments well. This wattage is higher than you are ever likely to need. The Peavey Bandit has two lead channels with seperate EQ on each channel. The clean channel has a sturdy switch to go from Vintage, Classic and Warm voicings and the lead channel and Classic, Modern and High Gain on the lead channel. The lead channel also offers a Boost button to make lead sections stand out above the mix. If you get the optional foot switch pedal then this boost can be foot operated along with the ability to change channels.A reverb control can add a bit of depth to the sound and the direct output features a Speaker Simulation to give the best possible direct output.A great sounding gigging amplifier on a budget. Five year warranty.
