The MasterDesign range from Tanglewood sees top Swedish luthier Michael Sanden work with Tanglewood to build these astonishing value for money guitars. Michael Sanden has been building custom order guitars for 25 years in Sweden, his partnership with Tanglewood has produced this range of MasterDesign acoustics built to perfection.
The TSR2 features solid rosewood back and sides, a premium grade solid sitka spruce top and a beautifully set ebony fingerboard which feels suitably dreamy and smooth. A rarity these days, the TSR2 features a zero fret making intonation accurate and giving a more balanced sound to open and fretted strings as an open string is essentially fretted againts the 0 fret anyway. The ebony nut merely guides the string into the correct positions (at a 44mm width).
If we turn to the headstock, this is a slight departure from Tanglewood's normal plain square affair taking on Sandon's own shape with black buttoned Grovers with gold hardware on top of the rosewood veneer. At the other end of the guitar the ebony bridge is Sanden's own 'Japanese Brushstoke' design in ebony.
Fitted with a simple volume control in the sound hole is the B-Band A1 under saddle pickup. This guitar sounds so great acoustically you want that sound coming out of the jack socket, not coloured by anything else, as accurate as possible. And the B-Band A1 delivers.
A stunning guitar. By no means cheap but comparable to guitars twice the price. Ships in a SKB Deluxe hardcase.
